To get where you want to go in life and business, you must make the proper preparation to ensure you have the desired arrival to your destination. Your communication and ability to demonstrate leadership influence are two key skills leaders must never stop striving to improve. Too often, leaders can get comfortable in their current environment. When success becomes the norm in any environment, it is easy for leaders to forget to include stretch goals to stay challenged. They fail to recognize that pushing to achieve more provides opportunities that can garner an even higher level of success. I also think that there are leaders who ascertain that once they have reached their leadership goals, they have arrived.I am of the belief that achieving your leadership goals is only part of the receipe for success. The other component of a leaders’ path to success is determined by how many other people you help to be successful. I would like to propose you analyze your progress regarding the following opportunities to assist others in their quest for success;

Determine what matters most to people – believe it or not, the world does not revolve only around you and your needs. Make sure you are in constant communication with people within your circle to also determine if their needs are being met within the execution of the goals you have provided them. Be sure and let them know that you want candid communication and your request is truly being asked to ensure their continued success as well.
Create opportunities for others to openly question and critique the path you have designed as the leader. The ability to demonstrate leadership influence means you must become open to constant feedback. Yes, it is your vision and your responsibility to provide leadership to others. At that same time, a great way to help others execute the vision is for you to openly provide opportunities for members of your team to tell you what is not working and need to be improved. You will have a better product, service and organization if you become more open to feedback. Your strong desire to succeed through leadership influence is just one of the components for success you will need. No leader achieves great success alone. Others can take a great idea and take it to heights you had not even considered.
